Graham Creek Preserve To Add 568 Acres

FOLEY, Ala. — Alabama’s largest municipal nature preserve, the Graham Creek Nature Preserve in Foley, will almost double in size with funding from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA), Gulf Coast Media reports. The City of Foley will accept the $2.5-million grant to buy approximately 500 acres on the south side of the preserve, which is soon to have a new $375,000 Ag Building (BBN #103). Already a 600-plus-acre preserve, it will soon acquire 68 more acres, in addition to the GOMESA-funded purchase. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the addition will offer residents and visitors more opportunities for recreation and education.
