150 Acres Conserved Along Rabbit Creek

The City of Mobile has secured a conservation easement on nearly 150 acres along Rabbit Creek. The property, which is bisected by 6,229 ft of Rabbit Creek, will be preserved from future development in perpetuity to retain its natural wetlands and flood mitigation by preserving the natural buffer between the water and developed property. The city has entrusted Pelican Coast Conservancy with holding the easement. Through this partnership, Pelican Coast will provide annual inspections of the land and provide reports to the city. In addition to helping improve water quality and providing flood mitigation, the move to preserve the property will also benefit the public by protecting a vital natural habitat for numerous wildlife species, including endangered and threatened birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and plants.
