3 American Artists Closing Celebration This Weekend

The Mobile Museum of Art (MMofA) is holding a farewell celebration to the yearlong exhibition that has showcased the work of African American artists Mark Bradford, Barkley L. Hendricks and Glenn Ligon. Over the last 12 months, 3 American Artists has brought nearly 20,000 visitors to MMofA. May 13 at 10 a.m.-5 p.m. will be the last chance to see it at the museum, at 4850 Museum Drive. There will also be live musical performances and poetry inspired by the exhibition, and MMofA staff will be on hand to offer tours. The Museum School will also provide fun activities led by local artists for children, and admission to the museum will be free all day. The artworks have been on loan from the collection of the Art Bridges Foundation. The exhibition features artists who have defined the art world through their works that focus largely on themes of race, gender, sexual identity, class and pop culture.
