Mobile Institutions Benefit From Grants

MOBILE, Ala. — Two Mobile institutions benefitted from $850,000 in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds directed by the National Endowment for the Arts, AL.com reported. The Alabama Contemporary Art Center received $150,000, and the Mobile Opera received $50,000. Additionally, the Mobile Arts Council received $15,000 for local arts agencies from non-ARP endowment grants. Elizabet Elliott, executive director and curator of the Alabama Contemporary Art Center, said such grants help keep institutions like hers from lowering their goals, adding, “This funding will bolster the current slate of programming, allow us to hire critical staff and support positions with confidence and security, and better serve this community and the South at large.”
