Foley Main Street Wins Three Awards

FOLEY, Ala. — Foley Main Street’s district has received three awards of excellence from Main Street Alabama, which focuses on bringing jobs, money and people back to Alabama’s historic communities by focusing on economic development. The awards are “Excellence in Business Development” for its “Envision Downtown Foley” program, “Excellence in Fundraising” for its first campaign and “Excellence in Historic Preservation” for the Downtown Foley historic self-guided walking tour. The award for business development recognizes outstanding efforts to improve the district business climate; fill market gaps; create new markets; and incentives, retention and recruitment efforts. Secured by the Downtown Foley Historic Tour, the Excellence in Preservation Award recognizes outstanding local efforts to preserve a local Main Street District history and preservation education efforts. Foley Main Street partnered with the City of Foley and the Alabama Historic Commission to create a historic downtown walking tour booklet of 11 stops and a companion self-guided walking tour. For the Excellence in Fundraising award, Foley Main Street was recognized for its “Happy Third Birthday” campaign, which started from scratch with a private investment goal of $29,500 but raised $42,250.
