Mobile County Student Creates Trash Collector

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — Davidson High School student Dakota Perry created a system to collect trash in waterways using a “bubble curtain” that prevents the trash from moving with the current and pushes it ashore, AL.com reported. Perry, who is a rising high school junior, presented her system at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Atlanta, where she received a “Judges’ Award” from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in May. Based on the “Great Bubble Barrier” in Amsterdam, Netherlands, it is powered via a waterwheel.
