USA President Announces Retirement

University of South Alabama (USA) President Tony Waldrop recently announced his retirement following a seven-year tenure the school’s trustees said was “marked by substantial growth and enhancements to USA’s mission of education, healthcare, research and service.” Under his leadership, USA implemented a five-part strategic plan aimed at improving student access and success, enhancing research and graduate education, improving healthcare, growing international programs and increasing local engagement. The university has also enrolled the highest-achieving freshman classes in its history and improved academic advising, academic facilities, housing and student life, leading to higher retention and graduation rates. Finally, he oversaw USA Health’s most significant expansion, in which it added dozens of new physicians and practices. Waldrop will remain in office at least through the end of this academic year, while a national search is conducted to select his replacement.
