Bayou La Batre City Docks Redevelopment Begins

 Ground has broken on the Bayou La Batre City Docks Redevelopment Project, a $24.4-million project funded by the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist, Opportunities, and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States (RESTORE) Act. Construction is to take approximately two years and transform the waterfront into a multifunctional economic hub featuring a seafood marketplace with two 4,500-ft2 open-air pavilions; an elevated 4,200-ft2 elevated timber pile full-service marina with a floating fuel dock, one main dock plus five side docks with water, electrical, fire suppression and restroom facilities; a four-lane boat launch; and site improvements including demolition of old structures and new bulkheads, boardwalks, utilities, lighting, sidewalks, curbs, landscaping, signage and benches.
