Admiral Hotel Sold To Hospitality Group

MOBILE, Ala. — After selling for $21 million, Mobile’s historic The Admiral Hotel (formerly the Admiral Semmes Hotel) is to be “reborn,” according to WPMI. Avocet Hospitality Group, a Charleston, South Carolina-based hospitality group, purchased the 156-guest room hotel at Joachim and Government streets in late June. Pietro Giardini, Avocet regional director of operations, said, “Historic hotels are our passion, and The Admiral is a perfect fit alongside our existing historic properties. We can’t begin to tell you how excited we are to have an opportunity to become a member of the Mobile community as we expand our footprint in the Southeast.” Among Avocet’s holdings are The Vendue in Charleston and The Read House in Chattanooga, both of which have undergone multimillion-dollar renovations during a process the company calls “rebirthing.” A similar experience could be in the works for The Admiral, which originally opened in 1940.
