Austal Holding Hiring Event Tomorrow At Bishop State

Mobile-based Austal USA has partnered with Bishop State Community College to host a hiring event on June 1 at Bishop State’s Downtown Campus at 351 North Broad Street in Mobile. Residents with and without experience in shipbuilding, welding and engineering are invited to register and choose a timeslot between 7 and 11 a.m. for an interview. NBC15 said Austal plans to hire approximately 1,000 additional workers by the end of next year. As part of its partnership with Bishop State, which began in late February, it guarantees those who have completed the jointly run Set Sail program an interview. Set Sail is a no-cost, three-week training program for residents interested in Austal’s open positions but have yet to gain the experience for them. It teaches safety, flux core and gas metal arc welding, blueprint reading, tape measurement and professional employability behaviors. So far, nearly 30 residents have attended it and earned opportunities at Austal.
