First A220 for Jetblue Rolls Off Airbus Line

JetBlue Airways recently announced that the first A220-300 of its order from Airbus has rolled off the Mobile-based manufacturer’s line. The latest Airbus model, the A220-300 features a new tailfin Jetblue calls “Hops” to coincide with the airline’s idea of “connecting many short trips together as part of a larger journey — or ‘hopping,’” it said. JetBlue has orders for 70 A220s to replace its 60 Embraer E190s. Sources such as The Points Guy report the process is to stretch through 2025 and that each plane will seat around 130 passengers. In addition to the one A220 Airbus is to deliver JetBlue in December, the airline is scheduled to add seven more in 2021 and another eight in 2022. News of the Airbus unit completion came in the same week the first U.S.-made A220 aircraft was delivered to Delta Air Lines, which marked Delta’s first A220-300, on October 22 (BBN Issue #7).
