AM/NS Steel Chosen For New Bronco

ArcelorMittal’s (AM) Fortiform 980 GI has been selected by Ford as the sole source for third-generation advanced high-strength steel being used in the 2021 Ford Bronco, Business Alabama recently reported. The highly anticipated vehicle will mark the first in the world to incorporate this grade of steel, produced at the AM/ Nippon Steel Corp. (AM/NS) Calvert plant. This grade of steel has a balance of strength and ductility. Its weldability is superior to that of other grades, and it can be welded to most other steels. Despite being a lower gauge (affording weight savings of 10%) than the steel in the original Bronco, it has better formability.
