Stimpson Honors Feeding The Gulf Coast

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson recognized Feeding the Gulf Coast for its 40 years of effort toward fighting local hunger. Part of the December 1 event was declaring the date “Feeding the Gulf Coast Day” in Mobile. Formerly known as the Bay Area Food Bank, the nonprofit opened its doors on December 1, 1981, as a small organization that aimed to serve the needs of citizens in Mobile and across Mobile Bay. It has since distributed more than 318 million lb of food to those in need, and nearly 350,400 families and individuals on the Gulf Coast still rely on it or a partnering agency for access to fresh, nutritious food. On the day of the celebration, a Feeding the Gulf Coast food drive at the Greer’s Cash Saver on Cottage Hill Road collected thousands of pounds of food.
